“Algodermia® was created in the middle of the seventies, but its origins probably date back to many years earlier when, as a boy of less than 10, I used to follow my grandfather who was a fisherman in the island of Ponza in Italy” says founder Silverio Esposito. “It was one summer towards the end of the fifties when we and a group of fishermen had surrounded a shoal of tuna with our nets. I remember quite clearly that the sea was calm, but my stomach was feeling decidedly queasy.

My grandfather started looking through the seaweed and picked some small strands and told me to eat them. Not daring to disobey my grandfather, I slowly started to chew and swallow the pieces he gave me. Ten minutes later my seasickness had passed, I was as lively as a cricket and so I managed to watch the fishermen catching tuna. It was an unforgettable experience for a boy: water spraying up like fountains, the muffled shouts of the fishermen, the frenetic thrashing of the tuna loaded onto the deck, and our journey back to port. It was grandfather's seaweed that caused the miracle.”

Twenty years later through his work with beauty products, Silverio came in contact with the algae fishermen of Brittany and that is how he began to study the use of marine algae in cosmetics. “It was not just a commercial enterprise for me, but a personal passion. In 1974 I created one of the first professional series of treatments with marine algae and registered the Algodermia® trademark”, says Silverio.  Since then an exclusive mix of active ingredients have been introduced to create the most complete professional spa treatments and skin care products which are praised today by aestheticians and costumers world-wide for their quality and effectiveness.
