Dr. Nicholas DePinto set out to create a line of luxury oral care products while still attending dental school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Not satisfied with the quality of products that were available at the time, while earning his Dental Medicine degree, he started dabbling with new ingredients for his own collection of dental products. His collaboration with Dr. Steven Toth began in college, where the two began formulating ideas.

Upon graduation from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, together, the two doctors began laying the foundation for their collection: creating new, superior formulas for toothpastes, lip balms, mouth rinses, travel tooth gels, and teeth whitening systems. In 2007, while on an excursion to South America, they discovered the fundamental element that unifies every product in the Dentalogica collection: Sangre de Grado, a powerful antioxidant, which would later become the key ingredient for their products.
