Safer Sunning by Ken Simpson of Skin 2 Skin Care

These are new days with new ways of sunning, and the practices that traditionally have gone into the so-called “healthy tanned” look are on the verge of fading into history.  Taking their place are safer sun practices that preserve people’s natural skin color and condition.  As the evidence against exposure to sun and sunlamps continues to mount…going natural is what experts are advising.  Harmful UV radiation can lead to premature aging, skin blemishes/age spots, weakened immune systems, and skin cancer.

The keys to protecting your skin are as follows:

  • Avoid the sun.  This is especially important between 10am and 3pm, when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
  • Use Sunscreen.  Find a broad-spectrum product that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.  For face and neck try Skin2Skin's Anti-Photoaging SPF 30 and for the body, shop mySpaShop's collection of  Sun Care products.
  • Wear a sun hat.  This is critical to protect not only your face but your neck, ears, scalp and eyes.
  • Wear sunglasses.  Solar damage can be detrimental to your eyes, too.  Cataracts and other long term eye issues can result from overexposure to the sun’s rays.
  • Cover up.  Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirts, pants or long skirts as much as possible or try a great wrap or sarong, when in the sun.  Most materials and colors absorb or reflect UV rays.
  • Avoid tanning beds. Many people believe that the UV rays of tanning beds are harmless because sunlamps in tanning beds emit primarily UVA and little, if any, UVB (the rays thought to be the most hazardous.)  However, new scientific studies show that UVA may be linked to the most serious form of skin cancer, melanoma and the destruction of collagen, causing premature aging.
  • Get to know your skin.  You can improve your chances of finding precancerous skin conditions with regular self exams and or have your husband, wife, or partner assist you in doing the home exams.  The best time to do skin exams is after a shower or bath.  Get used to birthmarks, moles and blemishes that way you will know what they usually look like and can easily identify any changes.
  • Have Yearly Exams! It is very important that you have total body exams annually by a qualified dermatologist. If surgery is needed, go to a skin cancer specialist to help avoid unnecessary scarring.

Ken Simpson, Founder & CEO of Skin 2 Skin Care, has had personal experience:  “I went in for a yearly body exam and skin cancer was found by my dermatologist, whose reaction was to put me under the knife and leave a scar on my forehead. I sought out a second opinion with a skin cancer specialist and the dermatologist recommended that we first freeze and burn the cells and as a last resort operate. Today the cancer is gone without scarring surgery. Always seek out a skin cancer specialist for a second opinion before you go under the knife. My first dermatologist was unaware that a plastic surgeon would be required during the procedure to insure that there was no permanent scarring or a depression in my forehead.”

Ken maintains his schedule of a yearly exam with his dermatologist, who continues to be amazed at how Ken’s skin looks, with no visible signs of dark spots and truly healthy skin overall.  Ken suggests that his skin is better than ever due to Skin2Skin's Photoaging Repair Cream, Anti-Aging Revitalizing Eye Gel and always using Natural and Certified Organic Anti-Photoaging SPF 30. “I can say I am dark spot and skin cancer free today by staying out of the sun and using Skin 2 Skin Care products. This is one of the reasons I developed Skin 2 Skin Care. I wanted results without the side effects of sun sensitivity and dangerous chemicals that would be unhealthy for me and  the planet, and potentially causing scarring of my skin with long term use of lighteners, glycolic acids, peels, retinols and possible cancer with the overuse of chemical SPF’s."  Shop Skin2Skin products for protection from Skin Cancer.  Shop mySpaShop's complete selection of Suncare products!
